Joy Novak studied music at Oregon State University, earning her BA degree in 1999. She has been playing the piano for more than 25 years, winning competitions and performing in venues as diverse as the Montinore Vineyards, Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, and the Oregon Music Teachers Associations' Annual State Conference. She spent three years as the house pianist for the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
Joy is also a highly involved member of the Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA), having served as chairwoman of Portland's Romantic Period Music Festival and Competition and co-chairwoman of the Hillsboro Syllabus Evaluation Program. She is currently serving as the OMTA Portland District's President-Elect as well as Director of Advertising.
Joy encourages her students to become active musicians in their community. They participate in music festivals, compose music, and win piano competitions. They perform with their school bands, accompany their school choirs, play in talent shows, and sing and play the piano in their churches. Some are paid to play for weddings and private parties. Others have graduated and gone on to study music in college. Contact Joy today and allow her to inspire your full musical potential.
